Bologna

Bologna is the main town of the Emilia Romagna region situated at the foot of the Appenine mountains on the via Emilia and today in an important hub of transport and communications. In Etruscan times it was known as “Felsina” and later the Romans called the town Bononia. The street layout is circular with main roads leaving the center at a radius. Bologna is famous for being the city with the most “porticos” in the world totalling some 35 Kms.
It is also the home of Europe’s first university. Bologna was known as a “Dotta” city meaning “learned”. The warm ochre and terracotta coloured buildings give Bologna its unique character
